Impressionist style oil on panel painting entitled “Sur la Plage” by renowned artist Alfred Emile Leopold Stevens, (Belgian, 1803-1906). Signed lower left “A. Stevens” and center plaque “Alfred Stevens”. Successful artist known for his paintings capturing elegant upper middle class Parisian life and works by the sea. He studied at both the Academie Royale des-Beaux Arts in Brussels and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. This painting depicts a beach resort along the Normandy coast where the artist spent his summers and which became an important subject matter for him. Works are in several prestigious museums throughout the world including the painting entitled “After the Ball, 1874” at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, not on exhibit. A beautiful and timeless painting to enhance any interior.
