Charming original painting of Paris Palais Garnier by Charles Cobelle (French, 1902-1998). The artist was a French-born American painter who apprenticed with and was greatly influenced by French Fauvist artist Raoul Dufy in Paris. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, as well as with Marc Chagall, before emigrating to the United States in the late 1920’s. He forged his unique personal Modern Impressionistic style depicting lively dreamlike Parisian monuments, street scenes and towns in vibrant colors using open lines within various tones of color. This painting captures the artists love of color and light in tones of blue, orange, pink, yellow and raspberry red. It depicts the Paris Opera, Palais Garnier as the striking center focal point with street scenes and activities in the foreground. Signed lower right. A whimsical painting that captures the allure and excitement of Paris.
