Look we Love: Rustic Style Decor

We love the look of rustic style homes no matter what time of year it is, but there’s something about frigid winter days (perhaps because it reminds us of cozy ski lodges?) that makes the look even more appealing. Want to give your home a warm, wintry feel? Try adding a rustic touch, courtesy of one of these style staples (click images to shop each piece).

1. Cowhide. If you’re hoping to evoke the rough-hewn style of a sprawling ski house out west, cowhide accents are a must. Of course, you can go with the standard cowhide rug, but we love how these woven cube ottomans put a modern spin on the look.

2. Antiqued brass or wrought iron. These two metals have an industrial, not-too-polished edge that fits in perfectly with a rustic decor scheme. To soften the look try incorporating it with feminine light fixtures, like the beaded chandelier below.

3. Antlers. What’s a rustic home without a few antlers? Though taxidermy is an on-trend way to add antlers into your decor, we prefer the unique style of this antler-framed, hide-upholstered arm chair.

4. Leather. Perhaps the simplest way to give your space a mountain-home feel is to add in pieces in rich, buttery leather. To prevent the look from becoming too heavy and masculine, choose leather accent furniture and decor–like an ottoman or throw pillows–instead of choosing it as furniture upholstery for larger sofas and chairs.

5. Distressed wood. The rustic home is no place for spit-polished finishes, so forgo high-shine stains for wood furniture with a natural look or weathered patina instead.
